Mohsen Pakaein, an Iranian expert in Afghanistan affairs, told IRNA on Wednesday that the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi pursues an intelligent diplomacy in dealing with developments in Afghanistan, with two characteristics of "accuracy" and "anticipation."
According to the analyst, the Islamic Republic of Iran connects with the Taliban government via Iran's ambassador to Afghanistan, while Tehran waits for the developments in the country to see what will happen in the future and how Taliban would govern the war-torn nation, when it comes to regaining of international and domestic acceptance.
The former Iranian envoy to Republic of Azerbaijan, Zambia, Uzbekistan, and Thailand went on to say that Tehran is not in a hurry to recognize the Taliban government and that the Iranian authorities hold consultations with other neighboring states of Afghanistan in a bid to find proper policy towards Taliban and the country.
The Islamic Republic has always attached significance to regional security, he said, adding that the second conference of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring states is an important step to find a way out of woes in the neighboring and Islamic country.
The Tehran conference will provide the neighboring states with a good opportunity to hold talks and find resolutions to help the Afghan nation get rid of insecurity and poverty, he noted.
If the conference helps neighboring states reach a consensus on developments in Afghanistan, it can play a great role in the future of the country, Pakaein said, adding that the meeting can also affect strategies of international entities in dealing with issues in Afghanistan.
The meeting has also a clear message to Taliban, he added, noting that the current officials in Kabul are expected to be in line with Islamic, humanitarian, and international standards, and seek to form an inclusive government via elections.
The second meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring states plus Russia is being held in Tehran on Wednesday. The first conference was held in Pakistan virtually.
